What’s in store for mining companies in the coming years? It’s a question plenty are asking, but few are answering. Sen. Pete Goicoechea, R-Eureka, noted the uncertainty.
Mines could be hit with a hefty tax that some say would slow down exploration projects. Others don’t expect significant changes, as long as the price of gold holds steady. Suggestions have been made that future tax legislation could wage a legal battle.
“At this point, it’s pure speculation,” Goicoechea said. The first sign that change may be coming will occur in November, according to the state senator.
