Iamgold reports positive Covid cases at Rosebel, operations suspended

The Rosebel gold mine, in Suriname, has reported its first positive coronavirus cases, with seven people having been diagnosed with Covid-19.

Toronto-listed owner Iamgold says that the individuals have been quarantined and are receiving medical care as appropriate.

The company reports that it has introduced extensive steps to protect its employees and contractors, including social distancing, improved sanitary measures in, a site access triage process, reducing the onsite workforce to essential services only and additional busses and medical personnel.
