Nouveau Monde graphite wins award for sustainable development

Nouveau Monde Graphite of Saint-Michel-des-Saints, Quebec, has won an Award of Excellence in Sustainable Development. The award highlights the company practices as part of its Matawinie graphite project 130 km north of Montreal.

The award was presented at the recognition gala during the EXPLOR 2019 conference held by the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) last month in Montreal.

Nouveau Monde president and CEO Eric Desaulniers thanked the local community of Upper Matawinie for their support of the project, adding that the award belongs as much to them as it does to the company.

“This recognition by our peers encourages us to continue our efforts to continually improve the practices and standards of our sector and thus position ourselves as a leader in sustainable development,” he added.

Nouveau Monde said on Nov. 5, 2019, that is has awarded SNC-Lavalin, in partnership and Seneca and Boucher-Lachance Architects, the engineering and procurement contract for the construction of the commercial concentrator at the Matawinie mine site.
