Gold miner Agnico Eagle’s Kittila mining operation, in Finland, has recently received the permit for expanding its processing facility to two-million tonnes a year and CEO Sean Boyd has said that the company is already starting to at further growth opportunities.
The permit is a key component of the ongoing €160-million to €170-million expansion project at Kittila, which includes the construction of a 1.04 km deep shaft and a processing plant expansion of 25%.
The new shaft will have a hoisting capacity of 2.7-million tonnes a year (two-million tonnes of ore and 0.7-million tonnes of waste).
