Gold miner Newcrest Mining on Wednesday assured shareholders that its Cadia operation, in New South Wales, would have sufficient water to ensure that production was not constrained by a water shortage, for at least the next two years.
Previous internal modeling had indicated that if rainfall had remained at 1-in-100 year lows, as it had been for the last two years, gold production at Cadia could have been impacted by water shortages early in calendar year 2021.
