Specialised chemicals company BASF Mining Solutions has successfully finished developing a tri-metal catalyst technology that enables partial substitution of palladium with platinum in light-duty gasoline vehicles, without compromising on emission standards. The company has been hard at work to establish how platinum, which is currently priced at about $880/oz, can substitute palladium, which is currently priced at around $2 500/oz, in the autocatalysts used in vehicles.
