Two Canadian mines will pilot University of British Columbia- (UBC-) led research that combats greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions by trapping carbon dioxide in mine tailings, the waste left over from ore mining. The technology, the UBC says, could drastically reduce the GHG emissions of mining operations and result in the world’s first GHG neutral mine.
