The police watchdog, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) did not properly followed its mandate in its investigations of the Marikana 2012 massacre, the North West High Court heard on Thursday. "I put to you that Ipid did not do its job as prescribed in the act, if you did your job [properly] we would not have been here [in court]," advocate Jan Ellis told an Ipid investigator, who cannot be named for security reasons.
