Industrialisation to help South Africa’s mining cluster compete globally

If industrialization is done properly through advancing the South African mining cluster and using the sector as a driver for industrialisation, the sector has huge potential to operate not only at scale but also to compete in the world market, says Minerals Council South Africa chief economist Henk Langenhoven. Considering that the local industry is too small to support the required economic scale needed for manufacturing, he highlighted that companies with the right mindset and priorities to turn their supply chain into a source of sustainable competitive advantage could do this through the implementation of Mining Charter III.
