The board of directors of Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE: NEM) has decided that Barrick Gold Corp.’s (NYSE: GOLD; TSX: ABX) unsolicited, all-stock proposal to acquire Newmont “is not in the best interests” of Newmont’s shareholders; however, the company has proposed a joint venture with Barrick for Nevada operations, officials said Monday.
