{"id":997202,"date":"2018-09-10T15:34:45","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T15:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=997202"},"modified":"2018-09-10T15:34:45","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T15:34:45","slug":"newmont-cant-get-enough-of-colombia-buys-19-9-of-orosur-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=997202","title":{"rendered":"Newmont can\u2019t get enough of Colombia, buys 19.9% of Orosur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-cant-get-enough-colombia-buys-19-9-orosur\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<div class=\"ftpimagefix\" style=\"float:left\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-cant-get-enough-colombia-buys-19-9-orosur\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/anza-map.jpg\" alt=\"Newmont can't get enough of Colombia, buys 19.9% of Orosur\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>World&#8217;s second largest gold producer Newmont Mining (NYSE:NEM) has acquired 19.9% of Canadian gold junior Orosur Mining (TSX, AIM:OMI), which recently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/canadas-orosur-shut-uruguays-san-gregorio-west-gold-mine\/\" rel=\"noopener\">closed operations in Uruguay and Chile<\/a> to focus on Colombia.<\/p>\n<p>Through a placement worth $2 million, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/newmont-announces-investment-in-orosur-mining-692848111.html\" rel=\"noopener\">Newmont has acquired 29.2 million commons shares<\/a> at a price of C9.1c (6.9 cents) each. The exploration and option agreement includes a three-phase earn-in structure that allows Newmont to earn up to a 75% ownership interest in Orosur&#8217;s Anz\u00e1 project, located in Colombia&#8217;s Department of Antioquia.<\/p>\n<p>To secure a majority stake in the project, however, the US miner would have to spend $30-million over 12 years, complet a National Instrument 43-101-compliant feasibility study and make $4 million in cash payments, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orosur.ca\/files\/2018-09-10-Orosur-Newmont-PR-FINAL.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">Orosur said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Anz\u00e1 project is in the Mid-Cauca belt, 50km west of the city of Medelli\u0301n and 50km south of the Buritica\u0301 high- grade gold deposit, as well as other major projects. Should the company pursue this option, Newmont&#8217;s ownership in the project will increase to 80%.<\/p>\n<p>Orosur&#8217;s London-listed shares responded positively to the news, trading 300% higher to 7.28p on Monday morning and jumped 160% in Toronto to 9 Canadian cents by 9:30 am ET.<\/p>\n<p>The news less than two weeks after the Greenwood Village, Colorado-based gold giant signed an option <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-extend-footprint-colombia-lyra-gold-project-deal\/\" rel=\"noopener\">agreement with another Canadian junior<\/a> present in Colombia \u2014  Miranda Gold (TSX-V:MAD).
