{"id":852880,"date":"2018-07-16T16:25:37","date_gmt":"2018-07-16T16:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=852880"},"modified":"2018-07-16T16:25:37","modified_gmt":"2018-07-16T16:25:37","slug":"fura-gems-grabs-more-ruby-assets-in-mozambique-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=852880","title":{"rendered":"Fura Gems grabs more ruby assets in Mozambique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/fura-gems-grabs-ruby-assets-mozambique\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<div class=\"ftpimagefix\" style=\"float:left\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/fura-gems-grabs-ruby-assets-mozambique\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fura-ruby-licenses-post-merger.jpg\" alt=\"Fura Gems grabs more ruby assets in Mozambique\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Canada-listed Fura Gems (TSX-V:FUR), a new gemstone mining and marketing company headed by the former COO of Gemfields, is expanding its footprint in Mozambique by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.furagems.com\/uploads\/Fura-to-merge-ruby-assets-with-Mustang-and-Regius.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">acquiring nine ruby assets<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which began operations a year ago and already owns ruby assets in the African country, said the merger of ASX-listed Mustang Resources and Regius Resources Group&#8217;s  properties with its own existing licenses makes of Fura Mozambique&#8217;s largest ruby group by licence area, covering 1,104 sq. km.<\/p>\n<p>Upon closing of the cash and shares A$15-million deal \u2014 about Cdn$14.6 million\u2014, Fura will have between a 65% and 80% stake in the assets, with the remaining interests, nondilutive and free carried, being held by the respective local partners.<\/p>\n<p><q>Once deal is completed, Fura will hold the largest ruby land package in Mozambique, covering over a thousand square kilometres.<\/q><\/p>\n<p>Those operations will be run by a newly formed team of gemstone experts, who were previously involved in discovering and successfully building the world&#8217;s largest ruby mine in Mozambique, Fura said.<\/p>\n<p>The company already had four licences around the area known as \u201cthe ruby belt.\u201d Earlier this year, President and chief executive <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/fura-wants-brighten-obscure-coloured-gemstones-market\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Dev Shetty told <strong>MINING.com<\/strong><\/a> he believed Fura was in position to start mining those assets \u201cvery soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Colombia and India<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Fura Gems also owns the iconic Coscuez emerald mine in Colombia, which it <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/former-gemfields-exc-led-firm-grabs-coscuez-emerald-mine-colombia\/\" rel=\"noopener\">grabbed from Gemfields in October<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the mountainous department of Boyac\u00e1, Coscuez is probably one of the best-known emerald deposits in the world, said Shetty, adding it&#8217;s known to have produced over 95% of Colombia&#8217;s emerald supply in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Fura, which <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/fura-gems-kicks-off-initial-production-iconic-coscuez-emerald-mine\/\" rel=\"noopener\">kicked off initial production at the operation in March<\/a>, found in May a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/canadas-fura-gems-finds-giant-emerald-historic-coscuez-mine-colombia\/\" rel=\"noopener\">25.97-carat rough emerald<\/a>, which it qualifies as \u201crare and exceptional\u201d one, given its size, colour saturation and clarity.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also expressed interest in grabbing the Bunder diamond project in India, which former owner Rio Tinto (ASX, LON:RIO) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/rio-tinto-gives-shelved-diamond-mine-to-central-indian-state\/\" rel=\"noopener\">gifted to the state government of Madhya Pradesh<\/a>, where the shelved mine is located, in February last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were eying this project for a while. That is the reason we hired the top management team that headed that project,\u201d Shetty <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/article\/companies\/start-up-fura-gems-eyes-to-acquire-bunder-diamond-mine-project-in-mp-118042100180_1.html\">said in April<\/a>. \u201cWe have submitted our intent to the state government to begin exploration on this site and are waiting for the government to auction the mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Fura&#8217;s ruby licenses post-merger with Mustang and Regius.
