{"id":781477,"date":"2018-06-19T17:00:39","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T17:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=781477"},"modified":"2018-06-19T17:00:39","modified_gmt":"2018-06-19T17:00:39","slug":"barrick-gold-walks-away-from-guyana-joint-venture-project-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=781477","title":{"rendered":"Barrick Gold walks away from Guyana joint venture project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/barrick-gold-walks-away-guyana-joint-venture-project\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>Shares in Australian gold explorer Alicanto Minerals (ASX:AQI) took a major hit on Tuesday after the company revealed that partner Barrick Gold had <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alicantominerals.com.au\/site\/PDF\/1383_0\/AlicantotoRetain100ofArakakaGoldProjectGuyana\" rel=\"noopener\">pulled out of their Arakaka gold venture project<\/a> in Guyana.<\/p>\n<p>Alicanto, which will retain 100% of the project, said it would now look to capitalize on the Barrick-funded work, taking the opportunity to focus on higher-grade targets not tested during the earn-in period.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian gold giant had spent $7.1 million on exploration at Arakaka, just shy of the $8 million it was required to invest to earn 65% under a March 2016 earn-in agreement.
