{"id":642680,"date":"2018-03-02T17:39:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-02T17:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=642680"},"modified":"2018-03-02T17:39:14","modified_gmt":"2018-03-02T17:39:14","slug":"chile-to-attract-60-billion-in-mining-investments-by-2038-minister-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=642680","title":{"rendered":"Chile to attract $60 billion in mining investments by 2038 \u2014 minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/juniormininganalyst.com\/chile-to-attract-60-billion-in-mining-investments-by-2038-minister\/\">analyst<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p><span>By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/chile-attract-60-billion-mining-investments-2038-minister\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>Chile, the world&#8217;s No. 1 copper producer and one of the top lithium suppliers, is expected to attract about $60 billion in new mines and expansions over the next 20 years, the country&#8217;s minister of mining says.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aurora Williams, miners with operations in the country currently spend $15 billion on support services a year, so the government has set an ambitious goal of helping locals to become providers for the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Chile aims to form 250 world-class suppliers expected to export $10 billion by the end of the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>The target, she says, it to have 250 world-class suppliers providing innovative solutions around the world and exporting $10 billion by the end of the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nature of mining has changed dramatically in recent years as the industry gets to grips with some of the major challenges it faces,\u201d Williams says. \u201cAs a country we have identified some of those key challenges, [which] we would like to address through the development of new technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister says some the issues Chile needs to address include transitioning from open-pit to underground mining, improving the efficiency of smelters and refineries, mitigating mine tailings, boosting productivity and efficiency of mines, and enhancing the efficiency of mineral processing.<\/p>\n<p>The country, which holds half of the world&#8217;s most \u201ceconomically extractable\u201d reserves of lithium, climbed back up to the top ten global mining destinations the Fraser Institute, a Canadian think-tank, <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/canada-the-worlds-top-mining-destination-despite-saskatchewan-fall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publishes each year<\/a>.
