{"id":466520,"date":"2017-04-05T22:38:16","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T22:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=466520"},"modified":"2017-04-05T22:38:16","modified_gmt":"2017-04-05T22:38:16","slug":"chinese-buying-50-of-barrick-veladero-pascua-lama-report-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=466520","title":{"rendered":"Chinese buying 50% of Barrick Veladero, Pascua Lama-report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/juniormininganalyst.com\/chinese-buying-50-of-barrick-veladero-pascua-lama-report\/\">analyst<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p><span>By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/chinese-buying-50-barrick-veladero-pascua-lama-report\/\">Frik Els<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s Shandong Gold Mining is said to be \u201cadvanced talks\u201d to buy 50% of Barrick Gold&#8217; Veladero gold mine in Argentina after Zijin Mining, another Shanghai-listed mining firm apparently walked away from a deal.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-barrick-veladero-shandong-idUSKBN1771QH\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters reports<\/a> that the mine which last year produced 544,000 ounces of gold and is considered one of Barrick&#8217;s five core mines could fetch in excess of $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Last week <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/fresh-incident-at-barricks-veladero-mine-in-argentina\/\" target=\"_blank\">a pipe carrying a cyanide-bearing slurry<\/a> burst at the mine in the San Juan province in what was the third such event at the operation in less than 18 months. Veladero <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/operations-resume-at-barricks-veladero-mine\/\" target=\"_blank\">resumed operations in October<\/a> after having been suspended for almost a month following the previous incident.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report Shandong would also pick up half of Barrick&#8217;s halted Pascua Lama project straddling the border between Argentina and Chile.
