{"id":465651,"date":"2017-04-04T10:12:16","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T10:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=465651"},"modified":"2017-04-04T10:12:16","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T10:12:16","slug":"diamond-market-regaining-sparkle-debeers-sales-up-again-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=465651","title":{"rendered":"Diamond market regaining sparkle \u2014 DeBeers sales up again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/juniormininganalyst.com\/diamond-market-regaining-sparkle-debeers-sales-up-again\/\">analyst<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p><span>By  <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/diamond-market-regaining-sparkle-debeers-sales\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>De Beers, the world&#8217;s No.1 diamond miner by value, <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.debeersgroup.com\/en\/news\/company-news\/company-news\/de-beers-rough-diamond-sales-for-cycle-3--2017.html\" target=\"_blank\">reported Tuesday<\/a> a 4.9% rise in sales during the third cycle of the year, compared to the previous period, on the back of a global recovery in diamond prices and demand.<\/p>\n<p>The Anglo American&#8217;s unit said provisional diamond sales reached $580 million for the cycle ended April 3, compared with $553 million it gathered in the previous sales cycle, but lower than the $666 million the miner fetched in the third cycle of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The figure builds on previous results by De Beers, which <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/de-beers-has-just-sold-largest-amount-of-rough-diamonds-in-a-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">in January recorded its biggest sale of rough stones<\/a> in at least a year.<\/p>\n<p>The fresh figures, said De Beers chief executive Bruce Cleaver, reflected \u201cpositive sentiment\u201d from the company&#8217;s customers following the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show in March.<\/p>\n<p>After a cautious first quarter, diamond buyers are returning to the market, though trading is expected to slow down this month in April during the Passover and Easter holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Dealers, however, remain optimistic following the Hong Kong show, <a class=\"colorbox\" href=\"http:\/\/store.rapaport.com\/monthly-report\" target=\"_blank\">the Rapaport April report <\/a>shows.
