However, concerns over rising coronavirus cases and its impact on the global economy still remain, limiting bullion\u2019s losses.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold fell 0.4% to $1,967.97 per ounce by noon EDT, after reaching an intraday high of $1,984.70 per ounce. Gold futures edged 0.5% higher at $1,986.90 an ounce on the Comex in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past two weeks we\u2019ve had such a climb in gold, it\u2019s going up so fast that you\u2019re going to see people wanting to digest or take some profits,\u201d Michael Matousek, head trader at U.S. Global Investors, told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/global-precious\/precious-gold-pulls-back-from-record-high-on-profit-taking-dollar-strength-idUSL4N2F53H3\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a><\/em>, adding that a rising dollar was also weighing on prices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/363721674-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1031575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/363721674-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/363721674-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/363721674-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/363721674.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe have definitely seen a loss of momentum over the past several sessions where only modest, even marginal new highs are being made, which has likely driven shorter-term players to take some profit and trade it, rather than simply holding long positions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/mercury.bloomberg.com\/news\/QEHNOZDWLU6B\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said Tai Wong<\/a>, head of metals derivatives trading at BMO Capital Markets. \u201cIt suggests a deeper albeit still modest correction is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the rally appeared to pause, analysts who say gold is overvalued are not expecting a substantial decline.
