{"id":1194782,"date":"2020-07-09T05:56:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-09T10:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1029195"},"modified":"2020-07-09T05:56:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-09T10:56:00","slug":"galantas-gold-to-resume-blasting-at-irish-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1194782","title":{"rendered":"Galantas Gold to resume blasting at Irish mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s Galantas Gold (TSX, LON:GAL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galantas.com\/news\/galantas-announces-first-quarter-2020-results\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said on Thursday<\/a> it was working out details to resume blasting at its Omagh gold mine in Northern Ireland, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/galantas-gold-suspends-blasting-at-irish-mine-to-cut-jobs\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspended since October<\/a> due to lack of required supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Blasting activities were part of Omagh\u2019s underground expansion, which Galantas kicked off in 2017 after the open-pit site run out of ore.<\/p>\n<p>Since the end of nationalism-fuelled violence in Northern Ireland in the late nineties, all blasting in the area must be overseen by police. Availability, however, was not sufficient for Galantas\u2019 desired level of operations.<\/p>\n<p>While mining at Omagh remains suspended, the company is now mulling strategic alternatives for the operation. Options include selling the mine, bringing a joint venture partner and seeking third-parties financing, Galantas said as it posted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galantas.com\/news\/galantas-announces-first-quarter-2020-results\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first quarter results<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada-headquartered junior logged a loss of $680,315 for the first three months of 2020. Despite the lack of commercial-scale production, gold concentrate sales helped the miner.<\/p>\n<p>Concentrate sales amounted to $186,000 for the quarter ended March 31, leaving the company with $936,560 in cash.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Canadians in trouble<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As a results of the challenges faced in Northern Ireland, Galantas\u2019 working capital deficit climbed to $7.29 million in the period, from $2.7 million the end of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The company is not the only Canadian miner in Ireland. Toronto-based Dalradian Resources (TSX: DNA) has been\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/polemic-around-canadian-firms-gold-project-in-ireland-heats-up\/\" >working on its proposed gold project in Tyrone<\/a>\u00a0since early 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The company has secured mineral rights to more than 80,000 hectares in Northern Ireland.
