{"id":1194319,"date":"2020-07-07T12:01:23","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T17:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1028969"},"modified":"2020-07-07T12:01:23","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T17:01:23","slug":"novagold-sues-j-capital-research-for-defamation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1194319","title":{"rendered":"Novagold sues J Capital Research for defamation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Novagold (NYSE, TSX: NG) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.novagold.com\/_resources\/news\/2020-07-07.pdf\" >announced on Tuesday<\/a> that it had served short-seller J Capital Research USA (JCAP) with a civil action lawsuit for defamation in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. <\/p>\n<p>The company alleged that on May 28, JCAP issued a &#8220;report&#8221; on<br \/>Novagold that contained false and misleading statements as part of what the company believes to be a &#8220;short and distort&#8221; attack.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Novagold and Barrick&nbsp;have reopened&nbsp;the Donlin camp last month following a two-month due to the covid-19 pandemic<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>J Capital Research <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/novagold-on-defensive-after-short-seller-shreds-its-alaska-project\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accuses managers <\/a>of the Vancouver-based explorer of \u201csystematically\u201d&nbsp;misleading investors about its proposed Alaska gold mine over the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>NovaGold and Barrick&#8217;s Donlin project, with measured and indicated resources of about 39-million&nbsp;ounces of gold is considered one of the largest open pit gold deposits in Alaska. <\/p>\n<p>JCAP, a company&nbsp;founded in China&nbsp;a decade ago which usually targets overvalued media and tech companies for short-selling, says the Donlin Gold project \u201cwill never be built\u201d and \u201cin short, is a stock promote, not a mining plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Drilling at Donlin<\/h2>\n<p>Novagold and Barrick&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/drilling-resumes-at-novagolds-donlin-project\/\" >have reopened<\/a>&nbsp;the Donlin camp last month following a two-month due to the covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Four drill rigs have been remobilized at the project, Novagold says.<\/p>\n<p>The company anticipates that most of the planned program, aimed at confirming recent geologic modeling concepts and testing potential extensions of high-grade zones, will be completed by year-end. <\/p>\n<p>The 2020 drill program consists of approximately 80 holes totalling about 22,000 metres centered on the ACMA and Lewis resource areas.<\/p>\n<p>Midday Tuesday, Novagold\u2019s stock was up 4.25% on the TSE.
