Canada\u2019s Endeavour Silver (TSX: EDR) (NYSE: EXK) has resumed operations<\/a> at its three underground silver-gold mines in Mexico, following approvals from the country\u2019s health authorities.<\/p>\n

The Vancouver-based silver producer\u00a0noted its mines and plants were ramping up to achieve normal operations. It also said exploration crews would restart mapping, sampling and drilling programs in June.<\/p>\n

It has three underground silver-gold mines in Mexico: Guanacev\u00ed, Bola\u00f1itos and El Comp\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n

The announcement follows news from fellow Canadian miner Fortuna Silver Mines (NYSE: FSM) (TSX: FVI) that its San Jos\u00e9 mine, in Mexico\u2019s southern state of Oaxaca, is back at full tilt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Endeavour
\nSilver posted a net loss in the first quarter, with revenue declining due to a
\nsuspension of operations at the El Cubo project. Results were also affected by
\noutput that went into inventory rather than immediate sales.<\/p>\n

Endeavour has three silver-gold mines in Mexico: Guanacev\u00ed mine in the Durango state, Bola\u00f1itos mine in Guanajuato and El Comp\u00e1s mine in the state of Zacatecas.<\/p>\n

Several other companies, including
\nNewmont Mining (NYSE: NEM), Pan American Silver<\/a> (TSX: PAAS), Alamos Gold (TSX,
\nNYSE: AGI),  Argonaut Gold<\/a> (TSX: AR), Sierra Metals<\/a> (TSX: SMT), Excellon Resources<\/a> (TSX: EXN) and Torex Gold (TSX:
\nTXG), have either restarted their Mexican mines or plan to do so in the coming
\ndays.<\/p>\n

Hardest hit metal<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Silver has been the commodity hardest hit by mine closures<\/a> mandated by governments to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Mexico, the world\u2019s top producer of
\nthe metal, is facing in 2020 one of the deepest recessions in its history as an
\nalready weak economy can barely cope with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s economy is forecast
\nto contract 6.7% this year, deeper than during the devastating Tequila Crisis
\nof the mid-1990s, the latest Citibanamex analysts survey shows<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mexico is responsible for nearly
\n23% of world production of silver, churning out more than 200 million ounces
\nlast year, up from 196.6 million ounces in 2018.<\/p>\n

It also has major copper and zinc
\nmines, operated by Grupo Mexico and Southern Copper, and produces a significant
\namount of gold, making the mining sector responsible for about 4% of the
