{"id":1184351,"date":"2020-05-14T08:00:58","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T13:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1023812"},"modified":"2020-05-14T08:00:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T13:00:58","slug":"nearly-90-of-canadians-support-growing-critical-minerals-market-share-mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1184351","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 90% of Canadians support growing critical minerals market share \u2014 MAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has released a new national poll, highlighting public enthusiasm for Canada to grow its market share as a preferred global supplier of critical minerals. <\/p>\n<div class='ad-slot' id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {    googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');    googletag.pubads().addEventListener('slotRenderEnded', function (event) {        if (event.isEmpty) {            var id = event.slot.getSlotElementId();            var x = document.getElementById(id);            if(x == null) return;            if (x.parentElement.classList.contains('ad-slot')) {                x.parentElement.style.display = 'none';            }\t\t\t\t        }    });});<\/script><\/div>\n<p>There is increasing focus on critical minerals \u2014 vital in aerospace, defence, telecommunications, computing, and in clean technologies such as solar panels and electric car batteries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>China has been a major supplier<br \/>\nof these minerals but Canada has an opportunity to play a larger role in this<br \/>\nmarketplace, MAC said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Canadians support growing our market share as a preferred global supplier of critical minerals, products and technologies that are essential to building a net-zero economy,&#8221; said the Honourable Seamus O&#8217;Regan, Canada&#8217;s Minister of Natural Resources in a media release. <\/p>\n<p>Almost 90% of those surveyed for<br \/>\nMAC by Abacus Data like the idea of Canada being a preferred source for<br \/>\ncritical minerals and would like to see government take a number of steps to<br \/>\nsupport this approach:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>88% want to see Canada increase its<br \/>\nrole in producing critical minerals for world markets.<\/li>\n<li>86% want to encourage international<br \/>\ninvestment into Canadian critical minerals and metals companies that are<br \/>\nsustainability leaders.<\/li>\n<li>83% want to encourage Canadian<br \/>\nproduction of critical minerals so Canada can compete with China.<\/li>\n<li>81% want to promote interest in<br \/>\nCanadian critical minerals by drawing attention to Canada&#8217;s high standards of<br \/>\nsustainability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Canada is a top-five country in global production of 15 minerals and metals, including cobalt, copper, precious metals, nickel, uranium.
