Between this and the Astoria area, several other drill holes showed gold in a range of 4.6 g\/t to 7.9 g\/t.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Rouyn gold project provides IAMGOLD with an opportunity to delineate satellite resources with the objective of supplementing production at our Westwood operation and utilizing our existing infrastructure and excess mill capacity,\u201d \u00a0Craig MacDougall, senior vice president for exploration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamgold.com\/English\/investors\/news-releases\/news-releases-details\/2020\/IAMGOLD-Reports-Further-Positive-Assay-Results-from-the-Drilling-Programs-on-the-Rouyn-Gold-Project-Quebec\/default.aspx\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"said in the statement (opens in a new tab)\">said in the statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/iamgold-posts-loss-for-2019-stock-drops\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">posted a net loss<\/a> from continuing operations of C$373.3 million on revenues of $1.1 billion. This as it recorded a $395-million impairment charge related to its Westwood mine, which was affected by increased seismic activity in the fourth quarter. <\/p>\n<p>The operations was temporarily halted<br \/>\nto comply with the Quebec and Ontario provincial directives intended to help<br \/>\nreduce the transmission of coronavirus.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Takeover Target<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>IAMGOLD\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/web\/china-gold-sees-iamgold-as-good-fit\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">made headlines last year<\/a>\u00a0after China Gold International Resources said the miner would \u201cfit well\u201d with its acquisition strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Following the highly publicized multi-billion mergers of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/new-era-barrick-gold-begins\/\" >Barrick \u2013 Randgold<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/case-closed-newmont-goldcorp-becomes-worlds-no-1-gold-miner\/\" >Newmont \u2013 Goldcorp<\/a>, rising gold prices have spurred an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/mega-deals-help-canadas-mining-industry-take-centre-stage\/\">anticipated wave of consolidation<\/a>\u00a0in the sector.
