John Thornton, executive chairman of Barrick Gold.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Barrick Gold (NYSE:GOLD, TSX:ABX) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"announced Wednesday (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.barrick.com\/English\/news\/news-details\/2020\/barrick-executive-chairman-adjusts-shareholding-in-company\/default.aspx\" >announced Wednesday<\/a> that executive chairman John Thornton sold 2,632,153 shares in the company worth just shy of $50m.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the release the sale was based on &#8220;personal portfolio considerations&#8221; and that Thornton would &#8220;continue to retain and seek to build on what remains a meaningful equity stake&#8221; in the company, the world&#8217;s number two miner of the metal.  <\/p>\n<p>The shares represented approximately 50% of Thornton\u2019s prior<br \/>\nholding, and Thornton now holds 2,642,127 shares.<\/p>\n<p>Barrick shares closed up 3% on the NYSE at $18.87 per share for a market valuation of $33.4 billion.
