Canada\u2019s largest diversified miner will take a C$1.13-billion ($852.12m)\u00a0writedown\u00a0on the project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the media release (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teck.com\/news\/news-releases\/2020\/teck-announces-33-carbon-reduction-target-and-updated-sustainability-strategy\" >the media release<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have set ambitious new goals for carbon reduction, water stewardship, health and safety, and other areas because we believe that a better world is made possible through better mining.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Teck\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teck.com\/responsibility\/approach-to-responsibility\/sustainability-approach-and-goals\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sustainability strategy<\/a>&nbsp;also includes goals to procure 50% of its electricity demands in Chile from clean energy by 2020 and 100% by 2030 and&nbsp;Accelerate the adoption of zero-emissions alternatives for transportation by displacing the equivalent of 1,000 internal combustion engine vehicles by 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, Teck\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/teck-resources-rolls-out-electric-buses-at-british-columbia-coal-operations\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"launched new\u00a0electric passenger buses  (opens in a new tab)\">launched new\u00a0electric passenger buses <\/a>to transport employees to and from its Fording River and\u00a0Greenhills\u00a0steelmaking coal operations in British
