These factors have<br \/>\ntaken a major toll on producers of small stones due to an oversupply in that<br \/>\nsegment.<\/p>\n<p>De Beers, reported Thursday its<br \/>\nworst set of earnings since Anglo American (LON:AAL) acquired it in 2012,<\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s No. 1 diamond miner by<br \/>\nmarket cap said demand for rough diamonds from polishers and cutters was weak<br \/>\nlast year due to the impact of US-China trade tension and the closure of US<br \/>\nretail outlets. Many companies in the so-called midstream are struggling to<br \/>\nobtain financing, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Alrosa believes the situation is<br \/>\nabout to change as it\u2019s already seeing the first signs of stabilization in the<br \/>\nsector.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing demand for synthetic<br \/>\ndiamonds has also weighed on prices.
