{"id":1163132,"date":"2020-02-02T11:07:19","date_gmt":"2020-02-02T17:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1012694"},"modified":"2020-02-02T11:07:19","modified_gmt":"2020-02-02T17:07:19","slug":"infinity-lithiums-jv-fined-in-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1163132","title":{"rendered":"Infinity Lithium\u2019s JV fined in Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tecnolog\u00eda Extreme\u00f1a del Litio, a JV between Australia\u2019s Infinity Lithium (ASX: INF) and Spain\u2019s Valoriza Miner\u00eda, is being asked to pay a \u20ac2,500-fine and to restore an area where it carved roads and installed drilling platforms in its quest to further explore the San Jos\u00e9 \/ Valdefl\u00f3rez lithium project in western Spain.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A resolution by the counsellor for Ecological Transition and Sustainability of Extremadura&#8217;s regional government dismissed an appeal filed by the company against the sanction.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>San Jos\u00e9&#8217;s resources have been estimated in 111.3Mt at 0.28%Li and 0.61%Li2O<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to news agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elperiodicoextremadura.com\/noticias\/caceres\/junta-ratifica-sancion-empresa-minera-sus-obras-ilegales-valdeflores_1215761.html\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Europa Press (opens in a new tab)\">Europa Press<\/a>, the issue was initially raised by the former General Directorate of Environment, based on a complaint presented in January 2018 by the Sierra de la Mosca Neighbours Association. The Directorate\u2019s file was also informed by a report compiled by technicians with the Environmental Protection Service.<\/p>\n<p>The file states that between 2016 and 2018, Tecnolog\u00eda Extreme\u00f1a del Litio opened new roads and greatly modified existing ones without having presented an environmental impact assessment before the authorities. The soil in the areas where the paths were carved out are under special protection and some segments are of archaeological significance. <\/p>\n<p>MINING.com reached out via email to Infinity Lithium and asked whether it is going to accept the sanction or pursue further legal action before justice tribunals but did not receive a response by publication time.<\/p>\n<p>The San Jos\u00e9 industrial lithium project is located near C\u00e1ceres.
