It noted the incident was triggered by a geotechnical issue.<\/p>\n<p>Coking coal markets have been particularly sensitive to supply disruptions over the past four years, and the Moranbah North outage comes as the Australian sector readies for cyclone season, when operations are often forced to close because of harsh weather conditions.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote season.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Analysts at Jefferies said while it<br \/>\nwas too early to say how long the mine, located in the Bowen basin would be<br \/>\noffline, the impact could be significant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we assume the mine is down for<br \/>\nthe year, this would be a ~$350m Consolidated EBITDA hit for Anglo&#8217;s 2020E<br \/>\nresults, equating to ~3.5% on our price deck and ~3% on spot prices,\u201d they<br \/>\nwrote.<\/p>\n<p>The investment bank noted that hard<br \/>\ncoking coal prices would have to average $20 per tonne<br \/>\nhigher than its current forecast of $155 per tonne for<br \/>\nAnglo to make up the volumes via pricing.<\/p>\n<p>Moranbah North has produced more<br \/>\nthan 6 million tonnes of coking coal in each of the past two years, accounting<br \/>\nfor roughly 3% of Australia\u2019s exports of the steelmaking material.<\/p>\n<p>Anglo American, which has<br \/>\nconsistently been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/anglo-american-mulls-sale-of-more-coal-mines-in-australia-96240\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offloading coal operations since 2014<\/a>,&nbsp;recently its<br \/>\n2021 thermal coal target to 26 million tonnes from a previous goal of as much<br \/>\nas 30 million tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>The diversified miner has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/anglo-american-cuts-output-targets-for-coal-iron-ore-and-diamonds\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">cut its 2020 metallurgical coal production outlook<\/a> to 21-23 metric tonnes (Mt) from 22-24 Mt, though that commodity appear to be one of Anglo\u2019s key pillars of growth moving
