{"id":1162203,"date":"2020-01-28T05:54:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T11:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1012267"},"modified":"2020-01-28T05:54:30","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T11:54:30","slug":"condor-gold-granted-extension-to-meet-environmental-conditions-for-flagship-la-india-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1162203","title":{"rendered":"Condor Gold granted extension to meet environmental conditions for flagship La India project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nicaragua-focused Condor Gold (LON:CNR) has been given an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/ca.condorgold.com\/sites\/default\/files\/news\/Condor%20Gold%20Announces%20Permitting%20Update%20on%20La%20India%20Project%2C%20Nicaragua.pdf\" >18-month extension<\/a> to complete the conditions of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/condor-gold-start-building-mine-nicaragua\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">already granted key environmental permit<\/a> for its proposed open pit at the La India gold project, in the country\u2019s western region.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The company now has until the end<br \/>\nof July 2021 to meet the requirements imposed by Nicaraguan authorities before<br \/>\nthe 2,800 tonnes of ore per day gold mine can be built.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Condor Gold is granted an extension. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/condor-gold-granted-extension-to-permitting-deadline-for-la-india-in-nicaragua\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">July last year<\/a>, it announced that Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource\u00a0(MARENA) had given the company an extra year to help it complete technical engineering tests and other studies required prior to construction.<\/p>\n<p>The objective, chairman and chief<br \/>\nexecutive Mark Child said in the statement, is to de-risk La India project and finish<br \/>\nall studies ahead of a decision to whether go ahead with building the mine. <\/p>\n<p>So far, the company has completed the<br \/>\nmine schedule, waste dump plan, as well as water and sewage management study<br \/>\nfor the offices and accommodation for the processing plant. The forestry<br \/>\ninventory and reforestation plan of 10 new trees for every tree cut<br \/>\ndown&nbsp;has also been finalized, Child said.<\/p>\n<p>Consultants are currently working<br \/>\non designs for the tailings storage facility and the surface water management<br \/>\nsystem.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the conditions Condor<br \/>\nGold is seeking to fulfill, the miner has made offers to buy the surface rights from all<br \/>\nlandowners within the mine site infrastructure, 50% of whom have<br \/>\naccepted. <\/p>\n<p>Designs for a fuel station for<br \/>\nbackup power are almost completed and studies to connect the processing plant<br \/>\nto the national electricity grid are underway<\/p>\n<p>La India&nbsp;project envisions the<br \/>\nconstruction of a main pit, which hosts an economic mineral reserve of 6.9<br \/>\nmillion tonnes grading 3.1 grams per tonne gold for 675,000 ounces of gold in<br \/>\ntotal.<\/p>\n<p>It also includes\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/condor-gold-seeks-growing-nicaragua-project-two-feeder-pits\/\" >two high-grade satellite feeder pits<\/a> \u2014 America and Mestiza \u2014 located about 2km and 4km, respectively, from La India\u2019s processing plant. While they are not fully permitted just yet, the smaller pits are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/condor-gold-updates-estimates-for-la-india-mine-to-include-feeder-pits\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">expected to increase the main pit\u2019s production by 50%<\/a> to 120,000 ounces of gold annually during a seven-year mine life.<\/p>\n<p>Condor Gold plans to begin<br \/>\nby&nbsp;mining the \u201cmini pits\u201d first, trucking the ore to a nearby processing<br \/>\nplant.<\/p>\n<p>The company initially staked concessions in<br \/>\nNicaragua, Central America\u2019s largest country, in 2006.
