{"id":1161273,"date":"2020-01-22T07:46:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-22T13:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1011914"},"modified":"2020-01-22T07:46:46","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T13:46:46","slug":"chile-protests-take-a-toll-on-antofagasta-quarterly-output","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1161273","title":{"rendered":"Chile protests take a toll on Antofagasta quarterly output"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chilean copper miner Antofagasta (LON:ANTO) saw <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.antofagasta.co.uk\/investors\/news\/2020\/quarterly-production-report-q4-2019\/\" >production for the three months ended in December<\/a> fall by 5.8% as a result of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/most-chilean-mines-disrupted-as-codelco-workers-join-in-country-wide-strike\/\" >massive protests against inequality<\/a> in the South American country and\u00a0issues affecting its flagship Los Pelambres mine and the Antucoya project.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The company, which had already been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/antofagasta-cuts-expected-copper-output-further-due-to-chiles-protests\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">forced to cut its production forecast for 2019<\/a>, &nbsp;said copper output dropped to 185,000 tonnes in the quarter ended Dec. 31 from 197,000 in the previous quarter.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Q4 production was hurt by disruption of fuel deliveries to Los Pelambres mine planned lower grades, maintenance at Centinela and a strike at the Antucoya project.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In addition to disruption of fuel deliveries to its flagship Los Pelambres mine, which accounts for nearly half of Antofagasta\u2019s total copper production, output in the last quarter was hurt by planned lower grades, maintenance at Centinela and a strike at Antucoya.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the series of issues affecting operations, 2019 was<br \/>\na good one for the miner, which churned out a record amount of 770,000 tonnes<br \/>\nof copper, at the top end of its revised guidance.
