{"id":1159756,"date":"2020-01-14T07:49:34","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T13:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1011211"},"modified":"2020-01-14T07:49:34","modified_gmt":"2020-01-14T13:49:34","slug":"savannah-resources-completes-licensing-for-mozambique-jv-with-rio-tinto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1159756","title":{"rendered":"Savannah Resources completes licensing for Mozambique JV with Rio Tinto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Multi-commodity<br \/>\ndeveloper&nbsp;Savannah Resources (AIM:SAV)&nbsp;has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savannahresources.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Full-Tenement-Permitting-Completed-14.01.20-FINAL.pdf\">received<br \/>\nthe third and final permit<\/a> for the Mutamba heavy minerals sands project,<br \/>\nbeing developed in partnership with Rio Tinto (ASX, LON, NYSE: RIO).<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The licence, valid to Sept. 2044,<br \/>\nwith the possibility of an additional 25-year extension, completes the<br \/>\nLondon-based company\u2019s full tenement permitting of Mutamba, which will allow it<br \/>\nto focus on progressing a pre-feasibility study (PFS). <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process has been rigorous and<br \/>\ndemanding, but we have now achieved one of the most important milestones in the<br \/>\norderly progression towards mine development,&#8221; Savannah chief executive,<br \/>\nDavid Archer, said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Once the PFS is completed, Savannah<br \/>\nResources will increase its interest in the asset from 20% to 35% and<br \/>\nultimately to 51% upon delivery of a feasibility study.<\/p>\n<p>Mutamba contains an indicated and<br \/>\ninferred mineral resource of 4.4 billion tonnes, grading 3.9% total heavy<br \/>\nminerals. It\u2019s located within close proximity to the infrastructure &#8211; the Port<br \/>\nof Inhambane, reliable power supply and excellent road connections<\/p>\n<p>Savannah expect to begin production<br \/>\nthis year, at an initial rate of 456,000 tonnes of ilmenite and 118,000 tonnes<br \/>\nof non-magnetic concentrate. <\/p>\n<p>The company is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/savannah-resources-to-extract-quartz-glass-making-ceramic-at-lithium-mine-in-portugal\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gearing up to start commercial lithium production<\/a>&nbsp;in<br \/>\nnorthern Portugal in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Mina do Barroso, arguably one of<br \/>\nthe most advanced lithium mining concessions in Europe, is expected to become<br \/>\nthe continent\u2019s first significant producer of spodumene, a hard-rock form of<br \/>\nlithium.<\/p>\n<p>Savannah, which acquired a majority<br \/>\nstake in the project in May 2017, has maintained a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/savannah-resources-enters-lithium-race-europe\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fast paced development
