Neubauer did not join the news conference.<\/p>\n<p>Organized groups have called for<br \/>\ndemonstrations at&nbsp;Siemens&nbsp;sites across Germany on Friday, arguing<br \/>\nthat while&nbsp;Siemens&nbsp;\u201cpromises in Germany to take responsibility for<br \/>\nthe climate and become carbon-neutral by 2030, [it supports] a backward-looking<br \/>\nproject in Australia, as well as the destruction of our planet and our future.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Carmichael mine, expected to<br \/>\nproduce 8-10 million tonnes of thermal coal a year, was approved by the state<br \/>\ngovernment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/australia-clears-adani-to-mine-one-of-the-worlds-largest-coal-reserves\/\">in<br \/>\nJune 2019<\/a> after a near decade-long struggle with regulators and<br \/>\nenvironmental protesters. <\/p>\n<p>According to official estimations,<br \/>\nCarmichael will contribute $2.97 billion each year to Queensland\u2019s economy and<br \/>\nwill create 1,500 direct and 6,750 indirect jobs during ramp up and<br \/>\nconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Thermal coal is one of the largest<br \/>\nsources of greenhouse gas emissions.
