{"id":1156077,"date":"2019-12-17T12:55:15","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T18:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1009446"},"modified":"2019-12-17T12:55:15","modified_gmt":"2019-12-17T18:55:15","slug":"yamana-boosts-dividend-for-second-time-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1156077","title":{"rendered":"Yamana boosts dividend for second time this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yamana Gold (TSX:YRI; NYSE:AUY) has made <a aria-label=\"several changes (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yamana.com\/English\/investors\/news\/news-details\/2019\/Yamana-Gold-Announces-a-Further-25-Dividend-Increase-and-Establishes-a-New-Dividend-Policy-to-Ensure-the-Sustainability-of-Dividends\/default.aspx\" >several changes<\/a> in the company&#8217;s dividend policy, among which was a further 25% increase in its dividend beginning in the first quarter of 2020.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center d-xs-block d-sm-block d-md-none'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The latest dividend hike follows the doubling of dividends announced in the third quarter, thereby representing a 125% increase in dividends since September.<\/p>\n<p>In November, Yamana executive chairman <a aria-label=\"Peter Marrone was quoted (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/web\/yamana-gold-considers-another-doubling-in-dividend-payout-ceo\/\" >Peter Marrone was quoted<\/a> saying that his company was considering another dividend increase and could support an increase that is at least 50% higher.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, these initial two increases are part of a &#8220;gradual and progressive approach&#8221; to dividend increases as its cash balances continue to grow. Since declaring its first dividend in 2007, Yamana has paid more than $900 million to shareholders, leading the industry over the 12-year period.<\/p>\n<p>Yamana will also begin to report dividends on a per gold equivalent ounce (GEO) of production basis, with the latest increase bringing the dividend level to $50 per GEO with room for further increases.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the company&#8217;s new policy to keep dividends sustainable, Yamana said it would establish a cash reserve fund to draw upon for dividends, should the gold price decline and negatively impact on margins over a longer period of time.
