Such move, Hecla said, has implied the hiring of hourly workers who, combined with some of the firm\u2019s salaried workforce, run the mine on a limited basis this year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>With a tentative agreement voted down, Hecla will would move forward without its unionized workers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>United Steelworkers Local 5114 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/usw-local-5114-rejects-proposed-agreement-at-lucky-friday-300975682.html\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">voted on Monday night against a tentative deal<\/a> reached in November. <\/p>\n<p>With the agreement voted down, Hecla\u2019s president and chief executive, Phillips S. Baker, said the company would move forward without the union workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will now accelerate hiring and<br \/>\nutilizing contractors with the goal of reaching full production by year-end<br \/>\n2020,\u201d Baker said in the statement. \u201cAfter three years of negotiating we<br \/>\nbelieve the best interests of the company and community is the Lucky Friday in<br \/>\nfull operation.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deep underground silver, lead,<br \/>\nand zinc mine, located in the Coeur d\u2019Alene Mining District of northern Idaho,<br \/>\nhas been in operations since 1942. <\/p>\n<p>Hecla reported at the end of 2018<br \/>\nat the strike had cost the company $14.6 million.
