{"id":1155452,"date":"2019-12-13T08:20:01","date_gmt":"2019-12-13T14:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1009096"},"modified":"2019-12-13T08:20:01","modified_gmt":"2019-12-13T14:20:01","slug":"friedland-allies-with-key-players-in-guinea-to-develop-nimba-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1155452","title":{"rendered":"Friedland allies with key players in Guinea to develop Nimba project"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;Key appointments are expected to fast track the development of the previously dormant project&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Billionaire Robert Friedland-backed High Power Exploration (HPX)&nbsp;appointed the former chief executive officer of the Guinea Alumina Corporation and former Guinean Prime Minister Mamady Youla to the role of CEO of Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Mines de Fer de Guin\u00e9e or SMFG.<\/p>\n<p>SMFG is the subsidiary of HPX that holds the concession for the development, construction and future operation of the high-grade Nimba iron ore project, located in the Republic of Guinea.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr Youla is a highly experienced mining executive having been the CEO of GAC from June 2004 to December 2015. GAC is a subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium and operates the Sangar\u00e9di bauxite mine, located in northwest Guinea,&#8221; Friedland said in a media statement. &#8220;Mr Youla was instrumental in overseeing the construction and operation of the $1.4-billion project, which was one of the largest greenfield investments in Guinea.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Youla also served as prime minister of Guinea from December 2015 to May 2018 during the second term of President Alpha Cond\u00e9, a period during which Guinea&#8217;s economy grew by 10%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are exceptionally pleased to have Mr Youla join SMFG to lead our Nimba team,&#8221; Friedland added. &#8220;The depth of his experience as both the former Prime Minister of Guinea and as the leader of a major global alumina producer will be invaluable as we accelerate the development of this world-class iron ore resource.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian mining icon also highlighted that the board of SMFG includes key people such as Abdoulaye Magassouba, the Guinean Minister of Mines and Geology since January 2016;
