{"id":1153749,"date":"2019-12-05T14:57:30","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T20:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1008573"},"modified":"2019-12-05T14:57:30","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T20:57:30","slug":"phd-student-wins-competition-for-environmental-work-on-commerce-resources-ashram-deposit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1153749","title":{"rendered":"PhD student wins competition for environmental work on Commerce Resources\u2019 Ashram deposit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Commerce Resources<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0(TSXv: CCE) announced Thursday that Sophie\u00a0Costis, a PhD student with the\u00a0Universit\u00e9\u00a0du Qu\u00e9bec, has won the\u00a0<em>\u201cd\u00e9fi\u00a0de la recherche en\u00a0g\u00e9osciences\u201d<\/em>\u00a0(Geoscience Research Challenge) for her work related to the characterization of flotation tailings generated using the flowsheet for the Ashram Rare Earth and Fluorspar Deposit in Quebec.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The competition was organized by \u201cl\u2019Association&nbsp;Qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des Sciences de la Terre\u201d (AQUEST) and consisted of candidates presenting their research projects in the field of geosciences at the Quebec Mines + Energy conference held in Quebec City last month. &nbsp;Costis&nbsp;won first prize for her oral presentation on Ashram and received a certificate of excellence as well as a $2,000 scholarship for her efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The PhD work is being jointly funded through a grant, totaling C$300,000, from the Fonds de recherche du Qu\u00e9bec &#8211; Nature et&nbsp;technologie&nbsp;(FRQNT) and the&nbsp;Minist\u00e8re&nbsp;de&nbsp;l\u2019\u00c9nergie&nbsp;et des&nbsp;Ressources&nbsp;naturelles&nbsp;(MERN). This work is being completed in partnership with the Centre&nbsp;Eau&nbsp;Terre Environnement of the&nbsp;Institut&nbsp;national de la recherche&nbsp;scientifique&nbsp;(INRS), a research-oriented branch of the&nbsp;Universit\u00e9&nbsp;du Qu\u00e9bec.
