Such growth will also put it ahead of hydro power and nuclear energy. Coal consumption, in turn, is expected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/coal-power-generation-continues-to-drop-in-the-us\/\">to edge down slightly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/power-generation-by-source-in-2020-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1008281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/power-generation-by-source-in-2020-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/power-generation-by-source-in-2020-1-275x300.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The study highlights that the Paris Climate Change Agreement will use 2020 as the base year against which the 2030 targets will be measured. However, the experts predict that those targets will likely to be missed, particularly if the United States goes ahead with its plan to exit the agreement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Donald Trump wins the presidential election on 3rdNovember<br \/>\n2020, then this exit will take effect the next day. This will make developing<br \/>\ncountries less willing to sacrifice economic growth in order to cut emissions,\u201d<br \/>\nit says<\/p>\n<p>The report comes on the heels of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unenvironment.org\/resources\/emissions-gap-report-2019\">a<br \/>\nUnited Nations report<\/a>, released late November, which said countries were<br \/>\nnot doing enough&nbsp;to
