{"id":1145405,"date":"2019-10-23T07:55:17","date_gmt":"2019-10-23T12:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1005044"},"modified":"2019-10-23T07:55:17","modified_gmt":"2019-10-23T12:55:17","slug":"newmont-goldcorp-gradually-resuming-operations-at-mexico-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1145405","title":{"rendered":"Newmont Goldcorp gradually resuming operations at Mexico mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Newmont Goldcorp (NYSE: NEM) (TSX: NGT)&nbsp;is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newmontgoldcorp.com\/newsroom\/news-details\/?newsId=43a7e2d6-0940-48c8-8531-1d896eb54a96\" >re-starting production at its Pe\u00f1asquito gold-silver mine<\/a> in Mexico, after the second blockade at the operation this year was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/penasquito-blockage-to-wipe-out-11000-ounces-of-gold-from-mine-output\/\" >lifted in early October<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The world\u2019s No. 1 gold miner has started<br \/>\na 10-day process of bringing the operation back to full production, with<br \/>\nsupport from the state and federal governments and an ongoing police presence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We appreciate the<br \/>\ngovernment&#8217;s efforts to uphold the law by assuring ongoing access to and from<br \/>\nPe\u00f1asquito while continuing to sponsor the dialogue process, should that<br \/>\ncontinue to be needed,&#8221; president and CEO Tom Palmer said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada-based miner had <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-goldcorp-resumes-operations-at-penasquito-gold-mine-in-mexico\/\" >resumed operations at Pe\u00f1asquito in June<\/a> after a 80-day blockade, one of the many affecting the mine&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/goldcorp-begins-controlled-shutdown-of-mexico-mine-its-largest-operation\/\" >over the past three years<\/a>. However, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/new-blockade-affects-newmont-goldcorps-penasquito-mine\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">halted it again on September 14<\/a> as the blockade returned.<\/p>\n<p>The Vancouver-based miner said in<br \/>\nSeptember it had offered $25 million in community investments and land rental<br \/>\nfees to resolve the conflict, but that the proposal was rejected.<\/p>\n<p>Later the same month, Mexican<br \/>\nPresident Andres Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/web\/mexicos-president-asks-parties-to-resolve-conflict-at-penasquito-gold-mine\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accused some of the protest leaders of seeking money<\/a>&nbsp;rather<br \/>\nthan legitimate social goals.
