{"id":1144717,"date":"2019-10-18T12:36:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T17:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1004688"},"modified":"2019-10-18T12:36:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T17:36:13","slug":"pangaea-investment-ups-stake-in-first-quantum-minerals-shares-jump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1144717","title":{"rendered":"Pangaea Investment ups stake in First Quantum Minerals, shares jump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First Quantum Minerals (TSX:FM) were up 17% on Thursday after Pangaea Investment Management, a firm backed by Chinese state-owned Jiangxi Copper upped its stake in the Canadian&nbsp;miner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pangaea bought an additional 6 million shares in First Quantum, bringing its stake in the company to 74.64 million shares, or 10.8%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First Quantum has been in discussions with&nbsp;Jiangxi Copper since September regarding a possible investment in the company&#8217;s Zambian assets, it said in a statement.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First Quantum operates six mines, including Kansanshi,\u00a0the biggest\u00a0copper mine in Africa.\u00a0First Quantum Minerals also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/first-quantum-ships-first-copper-concentrate-from-cobre-panama-mine\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"controls\u00a0Cobre\u00a0Panama (opens in a new tab)\">controls\u00a0Cobre\u00a0Panama<\/a>, a massive mining and processing complex in Panama, the largest copper operation coming to market over the next couple of years and the\u00a0biggest single private sector investment in the nation\u2019s history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First Quantum\u2019s shares were up slightly again Friday morning.
