production<\/a> at its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/canadas-goldcorp-to-make-borden-an-all-electric-mine\/\">all-electric Borden gold mine<\/a>, located near Chapleau, Ontario, about 160 km west of the company\u2019s Porcupine mine.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Borden, or \u201cthe mine of the future\u201d as the world\u2019s largest gold miner has promoted it, uses an electricity and battery-powered underground fleet. <\/p>\n<p>The vehicles are expected to eliminate all greenhouse gases (GHGs) associated with diesel-based equipment and the movement of ore and waste rock, equal to roughly 50% of the total GHGs on site, or 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Green technologies are expected to eliminate about 50% of \u00a0greenhouse gases (GHGs) on site, or 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The mine also features state-of-the-art<br \/>\nhealth and safety controls as well as digital mining technologies and processes.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Canadian and Ontario governments each granted the company C$5 million towards electrification of the gold mine, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-officially-opens-all-electric-borden-mine\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">opened last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBorden joins the next generation of Newmont Goldcorp mines and leverages our leading land position to anchor this new gold district in Ontario,\u201d president and chief executive officer, Tom Palmer,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmontgoldcorp.com\/newsroom\/news-details\/?newsId=cd1e29de-f343-4c56-ae85-d2c0b2d74cac\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">said in the statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ore from the mine is processed at<br \/>\nthe existing mill at Porcupine, in Timmins, 180 km to the east, creating a new<br \/>\ngold mining district in Ontario, according to Palmer.<\/p>\n<p>Borden, which is generating 250<br \/>\njobs for local and First Nations people in the Chapleau area, is part of a 1,000<br \/>\nsquare km-land package owned by Newmont Goldcorp. <\/p>\n<p>That are in northeastern Ontario is<br \/>\na relatively underexplored mineral belt with no mining history, which the gold<br \/>\ngiant will continue to explore.<\/p>\n<p>Newmont Goldcorp expects that once it demonstrates the numerous benefits of an all-electric operation, other mining companies will follow its example.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
