In the meantime, it has started developing key infrastructure to support the mine, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/press-release\/record-decision-available-gemfield-project-esmeralda-county-nevada#targetText=(GRL's)%20proposal%20to%20develop%20gold,the%20town%20of%20Goldfield%2C%20Nevada.\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">is expected to have a 12-year operating life.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Groundwork includes relocating nearly 2.5 miles (4km) of US Highway 95 and constructing certain water systems required to bring drinking water to the project. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Gemfield project is one of a few open-pit, heap leach gold mines in the US to be fully permitted and shovel-ready.<\/p>\n<p><cite>Waterton Global Resource Management<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>All key infrastructure developments<br \/>\nare expected to be completed by no later than Spring of 2020, the company says.<\/p>\n<p>Waterton\u2019s umbrella gold project is located near the town of Goldfield, one of the most prolific gold mining districts in Nevada. <\/p>\n<p>The Goldfield district&#8217;s land package covers more than 15,000 acres and about 1,150 mining claims, which have been subject to extensive optimization and project development efforts. These include drill campaigns, metallurgical test work, geotechnical engineering and hydrological studies, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Total production at the Goldfield asset is expected to be over 125,000 ounces of gold a year.<\/p>\n<p>Waterton made headlines last year for pushing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/waterton-steps-efforts-oust-hudbay-minerals-ceo-board\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">replace Hudbay Minerals\u2019 (TSX, NYSE: HBM) chief executive officer<\/a>\u00a0and overhaul the Canadian miner\u2019s board.<\/p>\n<p>Much of Waterton\u2019s discontent was<br \/>\ntriggered by Hudbay\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/hudbay-doesnt-deny-rumours-interest-chiles-mantos-copper\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleged intention to buy Chile\u2019s Mantos Copper<\/a>&nbsp;for<br \/>\nabout C$1 billion ($780 million)&nbsp;last year.<\/p>\n<p>Both companies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/hudbay-minerals-settles-board-battle-shareholder-waterton\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">settled their differences<\/a> in
