{"id":1138224,"date":"2019-09-13T14:19:55","date_gmt":"2019-09-13T19:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1001945"},"modified":"2019-09-13T14:19:55","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T19:19:55","slug":"newmont-confirms-potential-sale-of-red-lake-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1138224","title":{"rendered":"Newmont confirms potential sale of Red Lake mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The world&#8217;s biggest gold miner Newmont Goldcorp (NYSE: NEM, TSX: NGT) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"confirmed on Friday (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newmontgoldcorp.com\/newsroom\/news-details\/?newsId=e2d06068-da28-4a64-a030-64f65f976ca4\" >confirmed on Friday<\/a> in a press release that its Red Lake mine in Ontario, Canada, is up for sale.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Talk of a potential sale of the mine, formerly part of Goldcorp, comes only one week after <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"announcement of Newmont's divestment (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/billionaire-friedland-backed-miner-picks-up-iron-ore-deposit-in-guinea\/\" >announcement of Newmont&#8217;s divestment<\/a> of a 45.5% stake in the Nimba iron ore project in Guinea to High Power Exploration, a company backed by billionaire Robert Friedland.<\/p>\n<p>Following the blockbuster merger earlier that gave rise to Newmont Goldcorp, it was expected that between <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"$1 billion and $1.5 billion in assets (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/case-closed-newmont-goldcorp-becomes-worlds-no-1-gold-miner\/\" >$1 billion and $1.5 billion in assets<\/a> would be sold over the next two years.
