href=\"http:\/\/www.vale.com\/EN\/aboutvale\/news\/Pages\/Vale-informs-on-Brucutus-mining-front.aspx\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">operations at part of its Brucutu iron ore mine<\/a>, the largest in Minas Gerais state and the company\u2019s second biggest, behind Caraj\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div decision was based<br \/>\non its understanding that&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Rio de Janeiro-based iron ore producer had exceeded the mineral reserve limit approved for the exploration area (mining front), in question.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Brucutu, which has an annual capacity of 30 million tonnes of iron ore, is also Minas Gerais state&#8217;s largest mine.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cVale understands that all the agency&#8217;s requirements to<br \/>\noperate the mining front were fulfilled and reported in the economic<br \/>\nutilization plan submitted to the agency in 2017, and will take appropriate<br \/>\nmeasures in this case,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The company, the world\u2019s No. 1 iron ore producer, said the suspension<br \/>\nwill not impact the production at the mine, which is part of the firm\u2019s Minas<br \/>\nCentrais complex.<\/p>\n<p>The miner also reaffirmed its projected sales of iron ore<br \/>\nand pellets of 307 million to 332 million tons for 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Brucutu, which has an annual capacity of 30 million tonnes<br \/>\nof iron ore, has been in operations for 13 years.<\/p>\n<p>Vale was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/vale-forced-halt-operations-brucutu-largest-mine-minas-gerais\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">forced to halt operations at the mine in February<\/a>, following a court\u2019s decision banning Vale from storing tailings in the Laranjeiras dam at Brucutu.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict followed January\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/tragic-deja-vu-vales-dam-break-leaves-dozens-of-brazilians-under-mud\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">tailings
