{"id":1137428,"date":"2019-09-10T08:55:55","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T13:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=1001524"},"modified":"2019-09-10T08:55:55","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T13:55:55","slug":"newcrest-hails-drilling-results-at-western-australias-havieron-gold-copper-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1137428","title":{"rendered":"Newcrest hails drilling results at Western Australia\u2019s Havieron gold-copper project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia\u2019s largest gold producer, Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM), has unveiled what it\u2019s calling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newcrest.com.au\/media\/market_releases\/2019\/Newcrest_Market_Release_Exploration_Update_-_Havieron_2019.pdf\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">\u201cexcellent\u201d drill results<\/a> from Greatland Gold\u2019s (LON:GGP) Havieron gold-copper project, in the Paterson region of Western Australia.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Drilling work at the asset, kicked off in May, is being carried out and fully funded by Newcrest as part of a joint venture it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/newcrest-inks-65-million-jv-deal-with-greatland-gold\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">signed with the London-based miner in March<\/a>. That farm-in deal gives the Aussie gold producer the option to acquire 70% of the project. <\/p>\n<p>To become the majority owner, Newcrest would have to invest $65 million on exploration and development of the asset over five years. This would be on top of the $5 million it has already committed for the 2019-2020 year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Newcrest is now preparing for a larger, second phase of the drilling program at the gold project, which is located only 45km west of its own Telfer mine.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The results posted on Tuesday extend<br \/>\nHavieron\u2019s mineralization by a further 100 metres to the north and showed high grades<br \/>\nof up to 7.9 grams per tonne across a 43 metre intersection. While being \u201chighly<br \/>\nencouraging\u201d, the company noted the project was still in the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>The gold major is now preparing for<br \/>\na larger, second phase of the drilling program at the gold project, which is located<br \/>\nonly 45km west of its own Telfer mine.<\/p>\n<p>Newcrest, which is also the world\u2019s<br \/>\nNo. 3 gold producer by market value,&nbsp;has been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/newcrest-inks-65-million-jv-deal-with-greatland-gold\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aggressively searching for juniors<\/a>&nbsp;with appealing<br \/>\nassets to jointly develop them.<\/p>\n<p>In March, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/newcrest-grabs-majority-stake-canadian-copper-gold-mine-806-5m\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">acquired&nbsp;a 70% stake<\/a> in Canada\u2019s Red Chris copper and gold mine from Imperial Metals (TSX: III). The very next day, it&nbsp;set up the Havieron JV with Greatland Gold&nbsp;(LON:GGP).<\/p>\n<p>The Paterson region hosts several large gold and\/or copper deposits such as Nifty, Winu and&nbsp;Newcrest\u2019s Telfer. The world\u2019s second largest mining company, Rio Tinto (ASX, LON:RIO), is very invested in the area as well.
