href=\"http:\/\/www.nsrltd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/June-2019-Quarterly-Report-Final-30-07-2019.pdf\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">achieved record sales of 232,042 ounces of gold across its operations<\/a> during the June quarter, driven particularly by its Pogo mine in Alaska as well as its Kalgoorlie and Jundee operations in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The company, which <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/australias-northern-star-buy-gold-mine-alaska-260-million\/\" >acquired the Pogo underground mine from Sumitomo for $260 million<\/a> last year, said the operation\u2019s sales jumped by 33% to 48,009 ounces in the June quarter, compared with the previous three months. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Pogo, Northern Star\u2019s first mine outside Australia, has been commercially active since 2006 and it\u2019s the eight largest gold&nbsp;operation in the US.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It also recorded lower costs (down 18%), but Northern Star <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nsrltd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Pogo-Operational-Update-June-Quarter-30-07-2019.pdf\" >said in a separate presentation<\/a> that there was still a long way to go for Pogo to run as well as its Australian mines.<\/p>\n<p>Output at the Alaskan mine, located<br \/>\nsoutheast of Fairbanks city, had stalled during the March quarter due<br \/>\nto<br \/>\nthe late delivery of underground equipment and the introduction of a new extraction<br \/>\nmethod.<\/p>\n<p>Pogo, the eight largest<br \/>\ngold&nbsp;mine in the US, rests in the Tintina mineral belt, a 200km-wide<br \/>\nprovince that stretches 1200km across much of Alaska through to the<br \/>\nsouth-eastern Yukon.<\/p>\n<p>The asset, Northern Star\u2019s first outside<br \/>\nAustralia, has been commercially active since 2006, producing over 3 million<br \/>\nounces of gold to date.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from holding large gold<br \/>\ndeposits, the area also hosts copper, lead, zinc, silver and tungsten.<\/p>\n<p>Barrick Gold, Teck Resources, South32 and Newmont<br \/>\nMining are other miners operating in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Alaska-based mine
