{"id":1127942,"date":"2019-07-21T11:40:32","date_gmt":"2019-07-21T16:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=997167"},"modified":"2019-07-21T11:40:32","modified_gmt":"2019-07-21T16:40:32","slug":"antamina-to-spend-390m-on-mine-reno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1127942","title":{"rendered":"Antamina to spend $390m on mine reno"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peru&#8217;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Compa\u00f1\u00eda Minera Antamina (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/miners-back-to-work-at-perus-antamina-copper-mine-48495\/\" >Compa\u00f1\u00eda Minera Antamina<\/a> is planning to invest $390 million in a series of upgrades to <g class=\"gr_ gr_77 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"77\" data-gr-id=\"77\">its<\/g> copper and zinc operation near the north-central \u00c1ncash region.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Recently, the miner submitted a technical report to the National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments or <g class=\"gr_ gr_3 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"3\" data-gr-id=\"3\">Senace<\/g>, where it explains that the plan is to upgrade the mine&#8217;s entrance and implement a transportation system that allows for easy unloading, modify some piping platforms, and reconfigure the crusher.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>The changes to the entrance seek to optimize the removal of waste from the Antamina pit to the East Botadero zone, which will reduce trucks\u2019 travel time<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The upgraded crusher is going to be semi-mobile and should be able to process 13,200 tonnes of ore per hour. Overall, the company expects to be able to process 85 million tonnes of mineral per year.<\/p>\n<p>Antamina is also planning to optimize the site&#8217;s wastewater treatment system and the recycled water system.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is currently under evaluation at the <g class=\"gr_ gr_3 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"3\" data-gr-id=\"3\">Senace<\/g>, whose officials are assessing whether the project\u2019s environmental permit is still <g class=\"gr_ gr_70 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"70\" data-gr-id=\"70\">valid,<\/g> and whether the changes are within the mine&#8217;s approved area and don&#8217;t affect freshwater bodies, glaciers, snowed peaks, farmlands or nearby communities not considered in its existing environmental permit.<\/p>\n<p>Antamina&#8217;s mine is located 4,300 metres above sea level in the San Marcos district of the Huari province. It is considered one of the world\u2019s top 10 copper producers by volume and it is responsible for 18% of Peru\u2019s copper output.<\/p>\n<p>Besides copper, it also produces a large amount of zinc, lead, and silver and it is comprised of various stakeholders. BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) and Glencore (LON:GLEN) each have 33.75% stakes in Antamina.
