{"id":1127476,"date":"2019-07-18T09:55:27","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T14:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=996981"},"modified":"2019-07-18T09:55:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T14:55:27","slug":"barrick-gold-output-for-the-year-to-hit-upper-end-of-forecast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1127476","title":{"rendered":"Barrick gold output for the year to hit upper end of forecast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s Barrick Gold (TSX:ABX)(NYSE:GOLD), the world&#8217;s<br \/>\nsecond largest bullion miner, expects production of the precious metal this<br \/>\nyear to hit the upper end of its forecast range of 5.1 million to 5.6 million<br \/>\nounces.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Announcing <a href=\"https:\/\/barrick.com\/English\/news\/news-details\/2019\/Barrick-Reports-Preliminary-Second-Quarter-Production-Results\/default.aspx\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">figures for the second quarter to June 30<\/a>, the Toronto-based company said strong performance from Loulo-Gounkoto in Mali and Veladero in Argentina \u2013 where production increased 14.8% and 7%, respectively \u2014 was likely to offset lower output elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Barrick churned out 1.35 million ounces of gold and 97<br \/>\nmillion pounds of copper during the second quarter of the year, slightly down<br \/>\nfrom the 1.4 million ounces and 106 million pounds it generated in the first<br \/>\nthree months of 2019. <\/p>\n<p>The miner attributed the drop to lower production at Barrick<br \/>\nNevada (-8%) and interruptions at Pueblo Viejo (-16.2%) in Dominican Republic.<br \/>\nThe fall in copper output was due to lower production at Lumwana in Zambia<br \/>\n(-19.7%), it said.<\/p>\n<p>Barrick completed in the period a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/barrick-newmont-joint-venture-nevada-clears-hurdles\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">transaction that created Nevada Gold Mines<\/a>, a joint venture with rival Newmont Goldcorp (NYSE:NEM)(TSX:NGT), in which it owns 61.5% and is the operator.
