{"id":1125311,"date":"2019-07-08T13:15:06","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T13:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=995977"},"modified":"2019-07-08T13:15:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T13:15:06","slug":"firestone-finds-largest-yellow-diamond-to-date-at-lesotho-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1125311","title":{"rendered":"Firestone finds largest yellow diamond to date at Lesotho mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-focused\u00a0Firestone\u00a0Diamonds (LON:FDI) has <a href=\"https:\/\/otp.investis.com\/clients\/uk\/firestone_diamonds_plc\/rns\/regulatory-story.aspx?cid=1527&amp;newsid=1312885\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">dug up a 54 carat intense fancy yellow, sawable diamond<\/a> from its 75%-owned Liqhobong mine, in Lesotho.<\/p>\n<div class='d-flex justify-content-center'>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0'><script>googletag.cmd.push(function() {googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1561499308230-0');});<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The company said the stone will go<br \/>\non sale at the next tender, which is scheduled to take place in September.<\/p>\n<p>The find follows the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/firestone-finds-another-massive-diamond-lesotho-mine\/\" >recovery of a 72-carat yellow<\/a>, whole makeable diamond\u00a0in early April, which was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/firestone-shares-fire-finding-70-carat-diamond-lesotho\/\" >the second one over 70-carat<\/a> Firestone has found this year at Liqhobong.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;While Liqhobong has become known for its fancy yellow stones, this one is the largest we&#8217;ve recovered so far&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><cite>Chief executive Paul Bosma<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSawable\u201d stones can be cut in half in order to<br \/>\ncreate two smaller&nbsp;diamonds. In contrast, \u201cmakeable\u201d ones are those whose<br \/>\nshape allows to cut only one large&nbsp;diamond&nbsp;from it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Liqhobong mine has become<br \/>\nknown for its fancy yellow stones, but this one is the largest we&#8217;ve recovered<br \/>\nso far and is therefore quite special,\u201d chief executive Paul Bosma said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Bosma added that while certain<br \/>\nsegments of the diamond market were currently struggling, the demand for unique<br \/>\nnatural stones remained positive.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Firestone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mining.com\/firestone-diamonds-halts-liqhobong-mine-expansion-plans-limits-h1-losses\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">halted plans to extend the life of the mine<\/a>, as market conditions didn\u2019t support the project.<\/p>\n<p>The company spent $185 million<br \/>\nbuilding Liqhobong, which started production in late 2016, and&nbsp;boasts over<br \/>\n11 million carats in reserve.
