At the time, authorities said the payments stretched back over more than a decade.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>BHP settled last year a similar dispute with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regarding taxes owed by its Singapore hub over a 15-year period.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis settlement resolves the dispute with BHP, and I\u2019m pleased we\u2019ve been able to negotiate a very positive outcome for WA taxpayers,\u201d Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au\/Pages\/McGowan\/2019\/06\/250-million-dollars-secured-for-Western-Australia.aspx\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The state will use A$230 million of the payment towards building<br \/>\na new women\u2019s and maternity hospital that will replace the King Edward Memorial<br \/>\nHospital.<\/p>\n<p>A further A$15 million will be allocated for improvements at<br \/>\nHedland Senior High School, and the final A$5 million will be spent on upgrades<br \/>\nfor Newman Hospital, including extra beds and an expanded procedure room.<\/p>\n<p>In November,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mining.com\/bhp-pay-390m-settle-tax-bill-dispute-singapore-business\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BHP settled a dispute with the Australian Taxation Office<\/a>,<br \/>\nalso related to the miner\u2019s Singapore marketing hub, paying A$529 million and<br \/>\nagreeing to change the division\u2019s ownership structure.<\/p>\n<p>The Tax Office had initially claimed the company owed $1 billion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Payment ends row over
