{"id":1117306,"date":"2019-05-22T13:50:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T13:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/?p=988759"},"modified":"2019-05-22T13:50:12","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T13:50:12","slug":"newcrest-starts-drilling-at-greatland-golds-project-in-western-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1117306","title":{"rendered":"Newcrest starts drilling at Greatland Gold\u2019s project in Western Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia\u2019s largest gold producer, Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/polaris.brighterir.com\/public\/greatland_gold\/news\/rns\/story\/xp4v4qx\"  rel=\"noopener\">will begin in June<\/a> the most extensive drilling program to date at Greatland Gold\u2019s (LON:GGP) Havieron gold-copper project in the Paterson region of Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The exploration activities, part of a joint venture the two companies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/newcrest-inks-65-million-jv-deal-with-greatland-gold\/\">signed in March<\/a>, aim to define the extent of\u00a0mineralization along strike and at depths to 1,000m below surface.<\/p>\n<p><q class='pullQuote-right'>Exploration work is being fully funded by Newcrest,\u00a0which has committed to spend $5 million on the gold-copper project in the next 12 months.<\/q><\/p>\n<p>The work is being fully funded by Newcrest,\u00a0which has committed to spend $5 million on Havieron in the next 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>The farm-in deal gives Newcrest the option to acquire 70% of the project by spending $65 million on exploration and development over five years.<\/p>\n<p>Newcrest plans to process any ore from the Havieron site at its Telfer mine, located only 45km west, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Greatland Gold\u2019s chief executive officer, Gervaise Heddle, said the company expected Newcrest&#8217;s technical expertise and understanding of the local geology to build on the successful 2018 programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreatland&#8217;s 2019 exploration programme in the Paterson is advancing on a number of fronts, with a detailed aeromagnetic survey planned at Paterson Range East, a 6,000 metre drilling programme expected to commence at Black Hills within the next few weeks,\u201d Heddle said <a href=\"https:\/\/polaris.brighterir.com\/public\/greatland_gold\/news\/rns\/story\/xp4v4qx\"  rel=\"noopener\">in the statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Paterson region hosts several large gold and\/or copper deposits such as Nifty, Winu and\u00a0Newcrest\u2019s own Telfer. World\u2019s second largest mining company Rio Tinto (ASX, LON:RIO) is very invested in the area and its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/rios-partner-aussie-copper-project-said-nothing-great-far\/\">recent application for nearly 30 exploration licenses<\/a>\u00a0has sparked a stampede into adjacent lots
