The 142-year-old London Metal Exchange (LME) has appointed former banker Gay Huey Evans<\/a> as chair of the board, the first female to have that role in the bourse\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Huey Evans, who is Standard Chartered, ConocoPhillips and Ita\u00fa BBA International board member, previously worked at Citi, Barclays Capital and the UK\u2019s Financial Services Authority. She will replace Brian Bender when he retires from the board in December, the LME said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer global experience in developing policy and growing markets, (and) her deep understanding of risk, governance and regulation, will be paramount to the LME as we continue to grow in an ever-changing landscape,\u201d said the exchange\u2019s chief executive Matt Chamberlain.<\/p>\n

Under Chamberlain, the world\u2019s biggest market for industrial metals is working on rising the number of senior women\u00a0in its ranks amid a broader push for diversity.<\/p>\n

The executive has also been trying to improve behaviour standards<\/a> at the\u00a0LME and among its members after a client used the exchange\u2019s brand to promote a cocktail party at London\u2019s Playboy Club during last year\u2019s LME Week, an annual gathering of the metals industry.<\/p>\n

The exchange, an emblem of a male-dominated metals trading community, has one of the last \u201copen-outcry\u201d trading floor. The last woman trader\u00a0left it in 2013.<\/p>\n
